Naked Single Malt is a fresh-off-the-still, un-aged, single malt barley distillate. It is the same spirit that would go into a barrel to mature into whisky, but we decided to pull the distillate straight off the still, and put it in a ceramic bottle with a wax-sealed cork instead.
While some distillers call this type of spirit a "white dog", and others crudely refer to it as a "moonshine", we simply refer to her as being "naked". You will find the distillate has all the flavour, maltiness, and aroma of an aged whisky, but she lacks the distinct colour, vanilla, and caramels that are graciously imparted by the oak barrels used for aging.
For our mash we adhere to the strict rules of Scottish whisky making to avoid the need for additives and androgynous enzymes (we don't know what that word means either), and we only use three ingredients: Saskatchewan malted barley, water, and yeast. This deliciously warm new-make spirit is distilled twice to a maximum of 78% abv. to keep it as flavourful as possible.
She is young and immature but a lot of fun, especially naked!
